Employment Training Charity


The EBDC Employment Training Charity, is an independent of the EBDC, having its own legal and governance structures in place. The organisation undertake charitable work to support the training and employment prospects for ethnic minority communities in the UK.

The charity also aims to support poverty reduction worldwide through the provision of training and employment prospects for people at risk of poverty and disadvantage. The Charity recently launched a scholarship programme to offer requisite skills in the setting up and running of civil society organisations to individuals based in the Southern hemisphere (developing world, particularly Africa). Beneficiaries will gain hands on experience on the workings of UK based voluntary sector so that on their return, they can work within NGOs or work within in-country civil society organisations. Three, 5-year scholarships have been offered to Sierra Leone starting 2003/4 Academic Year. The Charity also runs two flagship projects in the UK;

Community Diversity Awards – a national awards scheme recognising volunteering and voluntary activity within the Black Minority Ethnic minority communities in the UK.


Black Minority Ethnic Public Access to Computer Training
(BMEPACT) –funded by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) through the Government Office for London (GOL) and the New Opportunities Fund (NOF) this project is a UK Online centre providing free access to computer training and basic skills for the public.

     
       
   
The Charity is staffed by volunteers drawn from the EBDC staff team.
